He started broadcasting just over a year ago, when he was commissioned by South African internet radio station, Springbok Radio, to produce and present a 20-episode series of half-hour programs, “Yesterday’s Tomorrows’ – Today”, wherein he recalled headline grabbing news stories and the popular songs, from the not too distant past. Each show focused on a particular year, from 1980 to 1999, and was presented in a news broadcast format, featuring the year’s International headlines, African news, Arts and Entertainment events, Sports headlines and other news items of interest, interspersed with some of the top international hits of each year. The show aired from 2 January 2009, to its completion at the end of May.

In March 2009, he started producing and presenting, “Finally Friday”, initially as a half-hour music program, but due to its popularity, soon increased to an hour long show - there was a flood of mail to the station requesting the show be extended. “Finally Friday” is largely listener driven, comprised almost solely of requests, which allowed people to hear their favourite songs without using their credit cards to buy the music themselves, making it even more popular amongst music fans. The music is mainly pop/rock, from the late 1950s to the 1990s. The show enjoyed a large measure of success, obtaining between 40 and 100 emails per edition, many of those accompanied by requests, making it the most interactive and most listened to show on Springbok Radio during 2009.

He really enjoys producing and presenting internet radio shows, saying “Of all the things I’ve done, this brings the most gratification, by far! And the most enjoyment…again, by far!!! There’s no other vacation I’ve been involved in where I actually want to ‘work’ all the time. From compiling a show, to scripting it, to recording, producing, directing and editing, the final product is hugely satisfying.”

Born in Fish Hoek, close to Cape Point, Neil grew up in the working class area of Plumstead, in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. Upon marrying in 1990, he moved to the City Bowl, in central Cape Town, where he stayed until 1998, when he and his family moved to the northern suburbs of Cape Town. He is married and has a daughter.
